Walking at Alhaurin el Grande

Hiking in the mountains of Andalusia, Malaga province

The area of Alhaurin el Grande (province of Malaga) is known for its beautiful nature and nature parks and its beautiful hiking trails. It is the ideal environment for outdoor sports. Below you will find the most beautiful hiking routes:

Save Municipal de senderos de Alhaurin el Grande

(The municipal paths of Alhaurin el Grande):

From almost the backyard of our holiday homes holiday homes you can participate in these different hiking trails on the Sierra de Mijas (Mount of Mijas). As well as around the corner from our address (the Camino de Ardalejos) you walk through a river bed over beautiful pebbles and pebbles up the mountain where the route joins a route belonging to the Red Municipal de Senderos de Alhaurin el Grande. The walking routes are from easy to difficult routes. Often the routes are indicated with colors.

Sierra Mijas:

Endless hiking, that is what you can do in the Sierra de Mijas. This is the mountain range where you can see the white village of Mijas-Peublo from far away. A road (A387) runs above the village where you can park your car and where all routes start. The “Acceso Ermita del Calvario” access is used the most. A few hundred meters further in the direction of Alhaurín is the “Puente Colorado” entrance. Seven varied routes have been plotted on this mountain side. Everyone can walk there because there are short routes, long, flat, steep, difficult and easy routes. You could even walk from here on the Senda de Málaga (GR249) to Ojén or Istán behind Marbella. The nice thing about walking here is that you are constantly treated to a beautiful panorama of the coast. In the beginning you can still hear the pleasant village sounds from Mijas-Pueblo and later you see Fuengirola in the distance. If you go a little higher, you will see the (sometimes snowy) peaks of the Sierra de Las Nieves in a westerly direction or those of the Sierra Nevada to the east. The Atlas Mountains in Morocco can also show up on clear days.

Barranco Blanco

Barranco Blanco is located in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas between Alhaurín el Grande and Coín. Literally “the white canyon”. In reality, this nature reserve is a small paradise. It can be busy on hot days. You arrive there via the A387 in the direction of Coín. About 5 kilometers after Alhaurín el Grande you turn left into a forest road. After two kilometers you can park and descend to the Alaminos River at the bridge. There you immediately see a pool with clear water and a waterfall (not during dry times unfortunately) of two meters high. Here you can look for a nice cool down or if you feel like it, you walk further upstream and already bathe as far as you want and can handle.

There are of course more beautiful and less well-known walking routes.
